Review on LG 43UN700-B: 4K Display with Type C Inputs, Tilt Adjustment, HDR, Built-In Speakers by Stanley Reiterman

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good but not the best in my rating

I've been using the 43UN700-B (new version) for a few weeks now. Everything is fine with the monitor. The form factor is good, the bezel is thin and unobtrusive, and overall it behaves as expected. Although there are a few things I hate about him. The main problem I have with this monitor is that the colors look very washed out. I know it should arrive already calibrated - and maybe it is, and that's the "right" look. But I have 3 monitors side by side and a MacBook Pro laptop screen - and all the other displays look way better. My 24 inch Dell looks bright while the LG looks totally washed out. I've tried playing with the settings but there's no way to simply increase the color saturation. Any changes I make just make it weirder. I bought it for work - and it's good for that - spreadsheets and databases look ok. But I wouldn't want to look at the pictures or play with them. Also, the joystick is simply designed to torment users. Totally useless. The remote makes up for that, but it still feels weird to me sitting at arm's length and needing a remote. Another thing is that it doesn't seem to switch inputs automatically. I turn off a computer and it goes to sleep, which is what I expected. Then I turn on another. Computer - connected to another input of this monitor - and the monitor does nothing. My other monitors automatically detect the signal from the other input and switch to it. I have to change this manually with the remote control. annoys. Finally - I expect 42.5 inches to be big enough for 4K resolution without upscaling. Almost like that - but not quite. I'm sitting 3 feet away and have to strain to see the letters at 100% so I let it run at 125% instead. I think the ideal size for native 4K is a few inches more. For a while I thought this didn't represent the resolution the computer gives it (which many monitors do). It's actually visible - it's just hidden in the last menu (Info) and very hard to find. I wall mounted it - and due to the location of the inputs, I have to unplug it every time I need to plug in a new cable. Which isn't very good, but I guess that's to be expected.
