Review on πŸš› Monroe OESpectrum Truck Shock Absorber 37073 by Michael Cleveland

Couldn't be happier!

I installed these Monroe shocks on the front of my 2001 Nissan Frontier Desert Runner in about 45 minutes and on the rear in about 20 minutes. The bottom nut on the front shocks took a lot of effort to come off but was otherwise very easy to install. Don't worry about jacking up the car and suspension properly as the shocks are not that difficult to compress by hand. They'll be slow moving and fighting you with little recoil, but I managed to squeeze mine about 3 inches in and quickly deployed the bolt once it was in place. The rear end was so easy, I didn't have to jack up the rear end or remove the wheels at all, just two nuts (it was easy) and a plastic cover to protect the muffler from impact (a few small screws). My only complaint (not even worth removing the sprocket) was that one of the two front shocks was missing the top hub. I was thinking about getting some Energy Suspension pads anyway, so I ran to my local auto parts store and bought them there. Revane can chide Monroe for this missed sale, couldn't wait! The ride is much better than the series. I replaced the back with the same one (slightly different mount) and I can't tell you how I wish I had done it a long time ago. The coil and leaf springs on my truck are pretty stiff for a standard truck, so I wasn't sure how much I would improve them. To put it mildly, I am very satisfied. If you're feeling like the last crack on the road, this will likely smooth things out for you a bit. I didn't expect such an improvement. Very happy! April 2015!. I've been living with these beats for a few years now, so I figured it needed an update. Initially they still work great, no leaks. The front end has softened a bit over time, to the point where it softens a bit on very big bumps, causing some rebound. It's not intrusive, just noticeable. Overall, however, the ride is still quite comfortable, especially compared to the overly stiff stock shocks that came with the Desert Runner. Due to the nature of the leaf springs, Monroe shock absorbers offer only a small increase in ride comfort. There is no rebound. On the rare occasion that I hit a big bump or bump in the road, you tend to get more front end bounce pivoting on a rear that doesn't move much. I still think driving is preferable to aggressive stock driving, but it's up to you whether you want your truck to behave more like a sedan (like most new big trucks from GM and Ford are driving now) or like an SUV . A sports car that can handle small jumps and big bumps without hitting the ground like my truck. The only real alternative is the significantly more expensive Rancho adjustable shocks. Since I'm on the road most of the time, I'm quite satisfied. On the rare occasions when I'm off-road, I just have to ride the bumps less aggressively. I can live with it!
