HDMI recorder with lots of problems

I have bought from MYPIN in the past, specifically HDMI to USB capture devices which I now use for live streaming from camcorders for work. some promises but there are some serious issues that would make me not recommend this product. I've had this product for about a year. Let's talk about the good things first: 1. The device is easy to fit into your setup. Connect an HDMI cable to the device and another HDMI cable from the device to the TV. The passage has practically no delays. It's good if you want to see things in real time.2. While the LCD screen isn't the best, it at least indicates that you're recording video on the device. You can choose the date and time for each recorded video or not.3. The internal battery is actually pretty decent. With a device recording from a full charge, you can record for up to almost 2 hours. You can connect your device to USB for power supply.4. The board is decent. The ability to start recording remotely comes in handy when you plug in your camcorder and don't want to move away from your current location. Also the ability to pause/resume recording is kind of a blessing. The video quality is actually decent once recorded and is recorded at a higher bitrate depending on your settings.6. It has a built-in speaker that can be used for basic listening, although nothing special. With that said, let's talk about bad and serious problems.1. The operating system of the device is very finicky. If you record your computer via HDMI, e.g. a game, and pressing Alt-Tab will disconnect and stop your recording. This has amazed me a few times. Also, in this case, your device can literally freeze and make it inoperable until you press the reset button. The sound quality is bad. Here's what's going on; When recording via HDMI, sound is recorded, but the sound has permanent artificial distortion present in the recording. No matter what level I set. It's like it keeps clipping no matter what HDMI source you're using. I tried multiple computers, different HDMI cables, different adapters and the sound quality was poor. I even tried using programs like Voicemeeter Banana to route audio from my microphone and audio from my desktop (with good balance) and output it to MYPIN but the audio going to record was still bad. I tried changing the sample rate from 41,000kHz to 48,000kHz, from 16bit to 24bit and the same problem occurred. Although not as bad as the microphone input.3. Microphone input: The microphone input is useless and very annoying. One of the main reasons I bought an HDMI recorder is the ability to record video game commentary and even use camcorders without a microphone input. I wanted to be able to use my microphone with the mixer and from the mixer to the MYPIN HDMI recorder as I have professional microphones. Also route game audio from consoles to another mixer input so I can adjust volume on the fly. I can't do that reliably. When I try, even with minimal gain, the audio is so distorted that it's unusable. The microphone input only works with basic headsets without the ability to adjust the microphone volume. This leads to two more problems. When you plug in a regular headset, the volume is so low that you can't hear yourself in the recording. You should turn down the HDMI audio volume just enough that the sound barely registers in any type of DAW or video editing software. The second problem is electromagnetic interference. When connecting devices with analog cables (TRS 1/4 stereo to 3.5mm), robotic noise is constantly present in the sound. It also makes the sound unusable.4. Volume controls and switches. You can use the built-in speaker to adjust the playback volume of your recordings on the device. However, if you plug in some headphones, you won't be able to increase or decrease the volume. Even if this unit is connected to the HDMI output, the sound from the TV and the unit will play simultaneously, but the headphones will not work. This is a very strange problem. The only way to reliably annotate my desktop recordings was to only record video on the device and use a separate audio recorder and mixer/audio interface just for the desktop audio and my mic and link it to post production synchronize. This contradicts exactly the purpose for which I bought the device. Some improvements I'd recommend: - Definitely need a way to monitor HDMI audio and mic in real time through the headphone jack - Need a volume meter to visually see if the sound is coming through correctly and to check levels Freezing when plugging and unplugging HDMI, USB and switching videos - BAD mic-in upgrade (my 2012, yes, 2012 Canon Vixia camcorder has a solid 3.5mm mic-in that records clear audio) I can't get my MYPIN back because I had it much longer than the return period. Also, I'm not sure if there are firmware updates that can fix many of the issues. Finally, I would like to mention that it is entirely possible that the problems I had were related to my own device, as others may not have had such problems. Unless they have a much better product in the future I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless you're just trying to take pictures.
