Good charger, sloppy build

Love the simplicity of this charger. I'm glad there aren't any slide switches that cause timing clicks when selecting high-current modes. This device waits for you to switch to the desired mode and then begins providing charging current. I have charged my motorcycle (AGM) and standard lead-acid car batteries with no problems. I hate that it makes a loud buzz and loud fan noise when charging. According to the instructions, this is normal. It looks like this. I don't need help with high current jumping yet so can't comment on that. After a few months of ownership I noticed that there was a dull sound when shaking the device. I used a #20 torx to pry the charger open and found 2 nuts completely loose in the case. Not very happy about that as it might have caused a short circuit. The nuts match exactly what was used and must have been accidentally lost during reassembly. I couldn't determine where they might have come from. No harm done. When I took it apart I also noticed that the fan wires were pinched between the heavy transformer and the plastic top case. It's possible that the transformer cut and shorted the fan wires. I just pushed them aside and everything is fine now.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Poor instructions
