Review on ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Protect Your Leather with Optimum Leather Protectant Plus - 17 oz. - SP2007P by Steven Saric

Excellent dashboard protection, low gloss like new

Used Aerospace 303 protection for a while before switching to OPP to try it. I haven't had a major issue with 303 and it has a well deserved reputation, but I was looking for something that had a little less shine and was completely oil free. Enter OPP. First, let me be clear that Optimum Protectant Plus (OPP) and Optimum Leather Protectant are the same thing, just a re-labeling for a specific 17 oz size. My wife's 2004 Mazda 6 with a charcoal gray dashboard and gray leather seats, and our new 2013 CR-V with a charcoal gray dashboard and light gray leather seats. Yes, a product for both vinyl dashboards (you think?) and leather seats (probably synthetic?). This is one of the main reasons I wanted to feel like I didn't have fat. I wanted to be able to use the same product on the seats as well without feeling like I was sitting in a greasy bucket. Mission accomplished. I noticed that even after pre-wiping with wet MF, the MF I used to apply the OPP picked up some of the remaining dirt from the seats. Possesses the soft washing ability. This was a welcome "feature" for me, but for those of you who prefer to keep cleaning and protection products completely separate, be aware. The application itself was easy and left no visible streaks. It left a very nice finish with a very low sheen. A similar gloss level can be achieved with 303 but after wiping with a dry MF cloth which tends to attract dust. It's a little hard to say how long a product will last because, well, it does. This is a low gloss to begin with. I usually wipe down the dashboard every few weeks with a slightly damp cloth and after the third wipe I reapply the protection. Interiors look like new every time, without the faux oily shine of your standard protection. The smell was pleasant, not too strong. It's hard to describe but it smelled "fresh" and my wife made an unsolicited comment that she thought the salon smelled nice after a recent use. The smell will go away in a day or two. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. This is definitely a great product but I would only give 5 stars if it was great too. I hope that was helpful.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
