Review on 19 Slot Bamboo Knife Storage Block by Cook N Home by David Pullen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A very good solid wood product that will hold a lot of knives!

This product is made from 100% real bamboo. Despite reading negative reviews from people who have no idea what they are talking about, I decided to buy it. Bamboo grows in the form of a hollow round tube. It is cut into slats about 1/8 inch wide and can be as long as a bamboo stem (usually about 12 inches). Once you have a stack of these boards, they are glued together to make boards, planks, or in this case a block. Bamboo can be glued both vertically and horizontally, each of these two ways gives a completely different look to the end product. (Vertical grain has very little grain and a very linear appearance, while horizontal gluing shows a lot more grain and that little bamboo detail (little zigzag lines) that we all recognize as bamboo.) This particular product is made by gluing bamboo vertically. You can clearly see this on the product as it is made up of tiny stripes. Some people incorrectly claim that the product is made of veneer. This is not true as veneers are thin layers of wood like paper. Hardwood trees can be cut into planks or planks as they are hard on the inside. The sawmill simply decides which cuts will be most efficient (getting the most straight feet from that particular tree), and then the log is milled or sawn to make boards. Of course, this is not possible with bamboo, since it is hollow in the middle. So let's look at the real product. top 2x 2" wide left 2x 1 1/2" right 1 1/2" left 1 1/4" right 2x 1" bottom 1 1/4" 1/2" cut for scissors 8x steak cutter Cut are approximately 7/8" wide. All slots go through the entire block and are open at the bottom. Time to sand it down properly. No big deal, this doesn't affect the ability to hold knives. Overall I give the product 5 stars. The main reason is the price. The block is solid wood that is well built and costs under $20! Yes, there are better blocks, but they cost a lot more not the blocks fault, it's their fault for not measuring before buying. For me it was a very good buy at a ridiculous price (less than $20 with easy shipping).

  • Knife blocks and storage
Cons
  • I don't remember, but there was something
