They do not extinguish cigarettes as the name suggests. In fact, it's just a cup with a lid with a hole in it. I was driving and dropped my cigarette butt inside. After 2 minutes it was still smoking and the bottom of the container was VERY hot. It also smelled awful. In addition, the label could not be removed. There are better portable car ashtrays that actually extinguish the cigarette completely by restricting the flow of oxygen so it keeps smoking.
