The apartment's load-bearing wall separated one room from another, and an iron armature installed in the wall prevented the router from completing the signal to the gadgets in that room. After fiddling with the directions for a bit (they weren't exactly clear), I was able to get the powerline adaptor up and running. The associated access point in this area made it possible for me to expand the existing network (so that when moving between rooms, the phone, for instance, changes between routers, you don't have to modify anything by hand). Unlike the original, I noticed no slowdown when using this version. If you don't want to run an Ethernet wire or seek for alternative options, I think this is your best bet. Transmission of the signal occurs in a single phase. Avoiding potential traffic delays by not including an adapter or access point in the pilot (a ordinary extension cord would do) is a good idea. Although I read about failures all the time, I have yet to encounter one. Maybe it's because no one has chewed on the wiring in the house yet because it's brand new. The entire encounter was so satisfying that I was shocked to find myself writing a testimonial.
