The waffle weave makes these towels look a little thicker than they actually are, but they are quite thin. I washed and tumble dried them but didn't follow the care instructions for washing in cold water. They've shrunk, and while I thought a tighter weave would make them a little thicker, they didn't. I see every thread. They look like intertwined threads. My fault for not following the care instructions, but I wash almost everything in warm water, especially kitchen towels which sometimes go through hot water. If you don't plan to wash them in cold water, you can leave them out or leave them looking warped and worn.
