To be honest I didn't expect any problems based on other reviews here but my god this material is difficult to work with. I came up with a 10 minute install and ended up with 1 hour +. Our stairs are painted so I carefully cleaned and dried each step to prepare it for self-adhesive. I pulled out the clear plastic backing, laid it down and. Nothing. It was like putting a piece of silicone on a ladder - nothing sticky. It comes with a small set of carpet tape which I then carefully spread out to match the 'critical' edges of the carpet backing and then struggled to peel off the white part of the double sided tape as the tape is more clingy to your hand want to stick than the actual sticky side of the gasket. I'm really stunned by (1) how insanely non-sticky "sticky pads" really are and (2) why more people aren't experiencing it (or at least not mentioning it in their reviews). I finally got the carpet tape in place, but now it doesn't take long to remove/peel off the tape attached to the stairs. With three kids under 5 I don't have high hopes for this product but we'll have to see.
