Review on Maxpow Liftgate Tailgate Supports 2001 2007 by Russ Freeman

What a great product at any price!

This is the second Maxpow rear lift kit I've fitted to cars. After reading some negative and positive reviews, I quickly understood why people were dissatisfied; You need the right tools (TORX bits) and a way to "unload" the jacks when you take the old ones off and put the new ones on. These lifters require over 200 pounds of force to squeeze them together, you can't do that! And if you loosen the old bolts before opening the door wide enough to unload the lifts, you will cut threads, damage threads, or even break a bolt on the machine or lifts. The first thing I did in preparation for the replacement was put some WD-40 on the old jack bolts the night before installing the new jacks. Then I replaced the jacks one side at a time; Always complete the replacement of the first lift before proceeding to the replacement of the second. Wobble meant it was discharged. It was then easy to remove the top and bottom bolts on the jack, replace the new jack and screw in the bolts. NEVER screw in with a screwdriver or ratchet - that's a recipe for disaster! Place a TORX bit on the extension and hand tighten the screw at least a few turns to ensure you never strip, strip, strip, soil or break any of the screws. You can then tighten them with a screwdriver or ratchet. Once the first lift was in place I had to adjust the blocks on my ladder a bit to take the pressure off the second lift and then these two bolts were easy to remove. The second lift was just as easy as the first and I did the whole job in 10-15 minutes. Some reviews state that the elevators are overpowered, very difficult to close and dangerous when opened. This is the second set of Maxpow jacks I've replaced on cars and both are perfectly matched to the car they were installed on (Caravan, Durango). Even if the Maxpow installation instructions are rather weak, I have no problem giving these lifts 5 stars!
