I once had an Apple Time Capsule for Mac Time Machine Backup. Then Apple went out of business and I started looking for a replacement. First, I set up an old MacBook Pro as a server. This worked well, but had a few downsides: My office was a mess (Mac and external hard drive). It didn't have a RAID disk for data redundancy. And all of the setup had to be done through the MacBook Pro. That means hiding it in a closet was impractical. To solve these problems, I decided to try Synology DS720+ NAS. I had never used a NAS before and was concerned it would be difficult to set up. I'm happy to report that it was fairly easy. I would say it took me about 5 hours to set up and learn about Time Machine and the media delivery features. Has been working fine for about a month. I have 3 Macs that backup regularly and I use Plex server for media sharing. Everything works great and I never have to fiddle with it. It's also so compact that I keep it in my network closet. I connected it to a CyberPower UPS, which provides backup power in the event of a power outage. It even communicates with the UPS and performs a controlled shutdown in the event of a power failure. So yes, I definitely recommend this NAS.
