Doesn't really fit in oak cabinets

Love this product - doesn't smell good, clears and is very easy to work with. This works well when using it on wood with minimal grain and blemishes or using a clear polygon on it. It doesn't seem like a good product to paint old fashioned honey oak cabinets like other users. I've tried the methods recommended in the online video: use a hotel room key or credit card to actually apply the product to the fibers in multiple directions, tried four coats, and also tried Zinsser Glitter Sanding Sealant to partially unclog the pores . wood first. I've had the most success priming with Bin Shellac and then using Aquacoat so I could actually see the grain, but it still only minimized the grain rather than covering it flush with the surface with a glassy layer. I've found that thinned wood putty works better and is a lot cheaper. Or try sanding the caulk, two coats of Aquacoat, shellac primer, then fill in the rest of the grit with slightly thinned wood putty (with appropriate sanding before each step, of course). Aquacoat simply cannot handle very grainy oak, especially oak that has been damaged through years of expansion and shrinkage. Putty is only good for painting, of course - if you need something transparent to paint with, expect to apply more coats than Aquacoat's instructions suggest and sand sealer first.
