The bottleneck is the bottleneck
The bottle must have a very thin neck, otherwise the cork will come out with the vacuum sealer. I bought these because I have rare whiskey bottles where the cork degrades and this would be the perfect replacement. I suspect this will work for thin-necked wine bottles, but don't worry if you make a spill. For example, as another reviewer mentioned, screw top bottles or for me Scotch and Bourbon.
