Definitely the nicest gate I could find, nice wood. But don't plan on restraining a big dog, or even a small one who is determined. We have a 10 lb Maltipoo that can push him aside. but she only does so when she is determined to come into the room. The side and foot rails help balance the gate, but we need to put a chair, magazine basket, or something heavy on the other side of the gate so she can't push it. But then again, she only does it when she wants to go to the common room (she thinks it's HER room). As such, we find it more effective to simply use it for a formal living room, which she rarely cared about in this space. So the gate is more of a reminder to her that she can't enter this room, and she leaves in peace. That's why I rate it 4 stars. mainly because of the looks and only partly because of the limited functionality.
