Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for bee shrimp aquariums

I bought my first 9 liter bag almost a year ago for my new 10 gallon tank to hold crystal red and black shrimp along with Taiwanese bee shrimp. The light from Revainia was really good at stimulating plant growth and it kept the kH very low (0-1) to keep the pH around 6-6.5, a very important adjustment to these to make shrimp happy. Also the initial cycle was easy with this substrate as it doesn't release too much ammonia to cause algal blooms but enough to stimulate plant growth in the first month. This substrate contains a decent amount of nitrates (10-20ppm) which can become quite high if water changes are not performed regularly. Eventually I found the nitrate levels to be around 40-50ppm but the shrimp were doing absolutely fine, there were many juveniles at the time and I didn't see any stock losses due to the high nitrate levels. I introduced red root floats which eventually brought the nitrate back to a comfortable level of around 10-20ppm and is now very stable. I do about 10% water changes every two weeks with remineralized reverse osmosis water. The tank still feels great and the substrate is holding up very well. I loved this substrate so much that I recently ordered two more packs, one for my 20 gallon bee tank in Taiwan and one for my 20 gallon high tech facility. These two tanks are still running for about two weeks and the ammonia level is about 0.5ppm, which is enough to stimulate plant growth, but the aliga hasn't flowered yet. The nitrate content is also around 20 ppm. I really like this product, it is very easy to use and I have found it to be less of a problem than some of the more ammonia rich substrates.
