Review on OEMTOOLS 24507 Professional Series Ethylene Glycol Antifreeze Tester: Evaluates Freezing Point of Antifreeze and Ensures Optimal Water/Coolant Ratio by Ryan Fuhrer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Easy to use, easy to read and interpret results

The exterior markings on this unit are a nice dark black and do not appear to disintegrate when exposed to ethylene glycol or other automotive coolant components. The number of discs that float indicates up to what temperature your coolant mixture is good without the risk of freezing. The only downsides are: 1) No gauge (for those new to car maintenance AND cleaning) 2) The piston at the top seems quite large compared to the amount of coolant that has to be sucked in to take a reading . It's very easy to push too hard and then get coolant in the piston. After using that I always take the bulb off and wash both in warm water as you don't want the coolant to dry out in the gauge channel. ---especially when the coolant is "dirty". Overall a good product

Pros
  • EASY TO READ: Count the number of floating discs in the coolant tester and compare to the chart on the tester case, which shows coolant freezing point in Celsius and Fahrenheit; Five floating discs provide perfect protection
Cons
  • not reliable
