Review on HAIMER Universal 3D Sensor Version by Jathan Louis

Trust but verify

I think it's SUPER! In practice, it leaves much to be desired. I started calibrating the center but the set screws were too tight to turn. When I called Haimer I was told that they usually come from the factory with an overtightened bolt on the end of the shaft. I took her advice and loosened the bolt and then re-torqued it to her spec. I was animated when it initially looked like it would fix the issues. After recalibration everything worked. After a few uses I noticed that my toolpath was not aligned, so I tested the display again and found that it was not centered. Assuming it was just me, I recalibrated it and got it up and running again. When it happened again, I called her. They suggested that the tool changer shook the tool and I should load it manually. So now I load the tool manually. A week later I tested it on a conventional indicator and programmed the toolpath to test the indicator. It was obvious that this thing had moved again! I called them and they told me that their warranty is about 30 days and that they are basically sending them to Europe for service. I expected more from an expensive indicator. They told me a few things about gauges and told me my expectations were too high. It's basically a great tool when it works, and I now keep a .0001" dial indicator on a magnetic stand to check regularly so I don't start. make bad details again. I wish this thing could hold its center. I think it's still faster and better than the old school edge finder, but it made me take a look at the touch probe. I'm not sure, but I'm wondering if Next Generation has improved levers.
