2009 Jetta TDi Brake Replacement

This kit was installed on a 2009 Jetta TDi with 80,000 miles. I don't know why, but VW moved this car back a bit, and the passenger's brake pads are worn to the point where they pick up the rotor. I've learned my lesson from cheap rotors in the past so I went with this kit hoping they would perform as well as I read the reviews. The back set was by far the hardest, but only because I didn't use the lift. To do this in a driveway requires some height for wrench spacing when loosening and tightening the triple square head screws. If you have access to a lift, rear brakes are no worse than any other disc brake replacement. I bought 4 new triple square head bolts according to the Bentley manual but in hindsight I see no reason to. I don't think they are Torque Adjustment (TTY) despite claims from internet pundits and my local VW told me they don't change them. This shows me that the factory manual does not need to be replaced. The only problem I could see was that if someone damaged the screw, you definitely don't want to reinstall it. The front brake was no problem at all. I chose to reuse the original calipers as they are slightly stronger and fit better. I suppose I could have removed the sprocket, but I didn't because the kit springs would still work just fine. After installation, the running-in procedure was complete and relatively uncomplicated. They need somewhere traffic free but not as much as I thought I would need. The brakes worked very well and drove absolutely smoothly even under hard braking. I let them cool down on the way home and then braked normally. Overall, I'm glad I bought this set. They stop the vehicle and look very nice sitting in place. I'll update this review once I've racked up a decent amount of mileage on the brakes.
