Over the years I have used several cheap hitch locks on my trailer. They're all pretty much useless and can be bypassed in 10 seconds with a good hit of a hammer or screwdriver. One "security lock" was actually frozen due to bad weather and I had to cut it off. Using such a safety chain is indeed the best solution. I pull the chain through the trailer wheel and around the axle. If someone really wants to steal my pendant they will anyway, but this chain takes about 30 minutes and a high-end electric cutter wheel. (noisy!). And yes, you need to buy an equivalent lock or the bolt cutters will just cut the lock off. ABUS U-locks are great. DO NOT trust the cheap (and expensive) hitch locks sold everywhere.
