fixed my headache - Tools & Equipment

I recently went through my fully assembled d16y8 engine. I knew I got it right this time because every time the shop rebuilds my stuff, they just mix new parts with old, worn parts, and sooner or later the engine will fail. I was so tired of wasting money in stores that I went ahead, put my stuff together, took my time and it worked. The problem was I had this awkward metal grind/clatter of metal, like a grinder gently tapping a piece of metal, and it didn't sound good at all, I've never heard that before. My engine or transmission. I ended up replacing my half-worn rocker arms, but the noise stayed. Before fiddling with the transfer, I came across this simple/quirky tool. As soon as I got it, started the car, put the tip on the gearbox and the car started, didn't hear anything over the top. Check I turned the car upside down, started it, nothing. Investigation. I put the oil pan on the block, started it, nothing. Check over. Put it on the exhaust manifold and I hear a slight knock/rattle. Put it on my new custom turbo, nothing. Eventually it was my old flattened wastegate gasket that allowed the center thrust ring to vibrate inside the wastegate making the most horrible noise imaginable and sounding like you had a metal grinder on your crankshaft. I have some multi-ply wastegate/vent pipe gaskets. and I never heard that sound again. It's been 1500 miles and my car still sounds like a champ. This tool has saved me more time than I've already wasted.
