As it got colder, I had trouble keeping my feet warm during my two hour morning rides. For several days in a row, with 24 degree weather, my toes were completely numb. I tried putting on different types of socks but it still didn't work. The problem is obviously wind chill, you absolutely need something to keep the wind out when you're going fast. I knew things like these shoe covers existed so I searched Amazon and found them. A few weeks have passed and the difference is day and night. No more frozen fingers. Worth the price! Not sure about durability yet and I purposely don't ride in the rain but even if they fail tomorrow I will most likely buy another pair. They change the rules of the game for cold, wind-chilled feet.
