Seachem Flourite Black Clay Gravel justified my review and disappointment with Ultum Nature Contolsoil. Ultum is not black as advertised, but brown, that has no benefit for plant growth, it dissolves in water, makes the water cloudy and constantly disappears. Or just use Seachem Flourite or CaribSea Eco-Complete for true black substrate, excellent plant growth, no dilution or cloudiness.

Amazing product that works.

Black Controsoil wasn't as black as I wanted, but my plants, snails, shrimp and fish LOVED it! I've actually been to Mount Aso in Japan, where the ash for this substrate comes from, so maybe I'm a bit biased. However, this substrate is beautiful. The seller is excellent, answered ALL my questions quickly and in detail. I recommend this seller and of course CONTROSOIL. Just buy it!

very good for plants but expensive

I have bought this bag twice before, one bag is enough to cover the bottom of my 3.5 gallon semicircular aquarium and it is perfect for the Growing Plants! The pieces are small and round, unlike some other substrates. For my 10 gallons, I mix this larger substrate with a smaller substrate to give the plants a chance to take root. other substrate mixes are cheaper, typically $25 for a 5 liter bag, that was $17 for 1 liter, but the consistency of the pellets themselves is more consistent.

  • Good product for the price

Terrible Aquarium Floor Substrate

This substrate is terrible. The tank is still so dirty that you can hardly see anything and was asked to put it directly into the tank without rinsing. A few hours after being in the tank, he was already turning to mush. I don't know why it got such good reviews. Went on something different with this one because I was doing research and it seemed like it would be better. I was also hoping that if the parameters look good I could move it to another tank, but that can't happen as it's falling…

Annoying good for fish and aquatic animals

EMPTOR WARNING When we poured this out of the bag (into our new aquarium) and tried to be careful not to create a large cloud of dust, we found that the dust from it all caused eyes , nasal passages and lungs become irritated. A man ran out of the room because his throat felt like anaphylaxis and had to immediately spray an inhaler to calm his lungs. I don't know where this company came from, but even the shrimp in this aquarium died. Now I have to empty the whole tank and start over. PU!

Favorite plant substrate!

I have tried many substrates for my planted aquariums. Sand/gravel does not provide enough plant nutrients. The Fluval layer breaks up easily and clouds the water. Seachem's Flourite will form a dirty cloudy mass if not flushed frequently. However, Ultum Nature System Controsoil requires NO RINSE and will not cloud the water. Now I have it in 7 aquariums and will continue to buy it for more aquariums despite the high price. My plants thrive in Controsoil and it looks great too. Recommended for…

Works and looks great

, Having used Controsoil for a while I feel I have learned enough to give a brief overview. Pros: • It's more resilient than other river layers • Definitely helps with plant growth • Handy size pellets • Doesn't need cleaning/preparation • Looks great for natural aquariums Cons: • A bit pricey but worth it • If you plan to use heavier decorations, use sand or make room for it, broken pellets cause a lot of "dust" • Probably due to handling, but one of the two bags ordered had significantly more

Pros
  • Everything great!

Good option for planted aquariums

I bought a 3 liter bag to mix with Seachem Florite in my 29 gallon planted aquarium in low light conditions. So far I've been impressed with it. Pros: - As long as plant growth is good - Doesn't cloud the water too much - Looks very natural - Settles very quickly and doesn't cause a slight stir Cons: - Not much product for the money - not really black, dark brown actually - if you smash it when you first put it in the aquarium, it will turn your water black. My mistake in using it is that I…
