I don't understand the rave reviews. This is a nice looking block of wood, but not a very functional phone or tablet stand. Here are a few big cons for me: The Groove theme doesn't allow you to swipe from the bottom up on a phone or tablet. For iOS devices, this means you cannot return to the home screen without unplugging the device. - The non-adjustable thickness of the groove limits the type of devices that can be placed, making it inferior to even cheaper plastic stands in terms of functionality. I suppose I could glue a vertical piece of wood to the edge of the slot to support thicker devices like a Qi charger, but that would ruin the aesthetic. There are some angles where it's easy to place a phone if you don't think about it, but those angles aren't stable and the phone tends to slide around. This may be less likely with a tablet, but mainly because a person is inherently more cautious about holding a tablet anywhere. Good design is one where I can lazily and safely drop my device and use it freely; and being able to take it with you is a bonus. Unfortunately, this piece of wood has more decorative value (if you prefer the birch style) than more functional value.
