Another thorn finder that doesn't work

I'm sending back the second thorn finder. This is checkout. I can't even find the pins I know are there. The manual is so small that it is impossible to read. I think I'm literally better off using a hammer and nail and just banging on the wall until I hit something. Can anyone recommend me a nail finder that actually finds nails?
