Review on Powerful and Reliable: WARN 92090 Epic 3/8" Steel Winch Hook, 6 Ton (12,000 lb) Capacity in Black by Paul Koehler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Yes it is expensive BUT

I prefer branded winch accessories to cheaper items. WHY? Look, I'm not a famous whore. I love the deal as much as the next person. But when you start talking about the forces that come with a winch, I want to know that the gear I use is actually rated for what they say. WARN has long been a leader in winch design. And even if some of their stuff isn't made in the USA, I bet they have better quality control than most. I got a big recovery kit because everything is more expensive than my winch. Covers for the winch were NOT included, I think something MUST be included) Look, everything is very simple. if you have a 12K winch (which I have) and want to pull double rope. EVERYTHING in the winch assembly must be rated for at least double 12K. So 24K boost (or more). The winch line, the tug blocks, the wood you use as the winch point, the shackle, and the tow point on your gear. EVERYONE. The price of a nominal winch is directly proportional to the thrust. More K, more money. This kit has enough gear to do a dash (elastic band), a double pull, there is a tree saver and a pair of nominal shackles. Gloves are good but may be too big for some people. And all this fits very well in a (rather heavy) backpack. I've added a few more WARN staples and a few more protective blankets. (additional restraints fit in backpack) Should WARN include blankets? Probably. This is probably the only rating I can give the kit. In general. I am very satisfied with this kit. But the quality of the supplied items is very good. The finish is very nice and looks like it will last for years. You can save a lot of things, but the last thing you need is when you're stuck in the middle of nowhere, digging up to your axles in sticky mud trying to get your 9k truck to do a 3k - followers to pull. Send a "nominal" mount or dash block flying back at you with over 20,000/lb of power. As they say, buy once, cry once. Get good gear.

Pros
  • everything is fine!
Cons
