This is a great product especially for Macbook Air owners who are always short on space. This is probably the cheapest way to double or nearly triple your available storage for under $100, assuming you don't have to use your Mac's SD card slot. side of your Macbook Pro or Macbook Air (make sure you select the correct version for your Mac model). The card stays firmly in place and requires little effort to remove - I found running a fingernail along the sides was enough to dislodge it. I'm concerned that the side of the card might loosen over time, but so far I've removed the card at least a dozen times with no obvious signs of anything breaking off. It should be noted that this is nowhere near a replacement for an SSD. In fact, write speeds vary everywhere, with sequential write speeds as low as 12 megabytes per second and sometimes up to 50. When testing a Blackmagic drive, write speeds were typically below 20 megabytes per second. However, reading was much better and more stable, running at 60 to 87 megabytes per second. Strangely, the drive isn't formatted for Mac's native file system. It is formatted in the more versatile ExFAT system which is compatible with most computer platforms. I highly recommend converting it to Mac's HFS+ journal format using Disk Utility so that Time Machine includes the Transcend card in its regular backups. I recommend checking the volume on your time machine from time to time to make sure the disk is allocated properly. Overall this is a good product that is sure to add a significant amount of storage to a Macbook Pro Retina or Air. I just want the writing speed to be more stable.
