This was a direct replacement for a footswitch that had stopped working due to the button/spring mechanism failing over time. Installation instructions have already been posted by another reviewer (THANKS!), but the best prep work you can do is tin the wires that you need to pre-insert into this pushbutton switch. This allows you to gently insert the wires into the switch and hook them in correctly the first time. Otherwise a reliable product that replaced the same type of footswitch and actually a direct 1:1 replacement for an old broken one that comes with many cheaper floor lamps you can find at Home Depot/Lowes/Target/etc. can get.
