Difficult installation. I believe that my situation is the same that anyone can face. The wooden frame of the steel door is about two inches from the nearest jamb. The holes in the closer are not spaced so it works without any modifications. I had to cut out the molding and then shape the base to bridge the gap. I then had to screw this base to the stud and door frame so there was no air gap. I wanted the closer to have enough spring tension to close the door just enough for my dog to push it back in. The door was not locked in the house. Worked fine for a week, then the mechanism began to fail. However, the WD 40 spray worked again and has been working the way I want it to for the past three months with no further failures. Your door should close easily without binding. Hinges should be lubricated with WD40. CAREFULLY! Don't lose the small pin needed to adjust the spring. You may need this in the future. Update May 25, 2019 Still working great. The picture shows the installation but does not show the heads of the two long screws in the door frame that are underneath the hinge body. I know it must get dirty. Update January 1st 2021 Still working great and didn't get COVID :D
