Review on Enhanced Performance: Moroso 38770 Harmonic Balancer Bolt for Small Block Chevy by George Robinson

I prefer this replacement over Mr. Gasket as it is made in the USA and like the original screw compared to the Mr. Made in China and used essentially a yellow zinc coating. Item 1, Moroso does not include the lock washer that is required and supplied with Mr. Gasket. Of course, I knew this from the information on the box, but when you charge $12 for a screw, you'd think they could go through some kind of 20-cent lock washer. However, my main concerns relate to the potential downsides of this screw compared to OEM. screw replaced. First, this bolt is almost fully threaded, which significantly exceeds the thread length of the OEM bolt. You can see it in the photos I added. The threaded portion of the screw is weaker than the non-threaded portion, so it should be kept to a minimum. In this case, due to the almost full threading, any side loading caused by motor torque as the balance wheel's 8lb harmonic rotation causes more flexing in the threaded area, potentially causing fatigue and eventual failure. Bolt Mr. The seal has the correct thread length. The second problem is the reduced diameter and thickness of the lock washer. This can be clearly seen in the attached photos. A heavier OEM shim can help improve system stiffness and reduce deflection. When replacing the screw, I opted for the original washer. Washing machine The gasket is the correct thickness and diameter. The only nice feature about this bolt is the large head which makes it easier to hold the bushing when tightened to specification. Bolt Mr. The Gasket has a large head, but unlike Moroso, whose head is made by welding the lid on, Mr. Gasket appears to be one piece. Comparing this American made bolt to a Chinese made bolt is a definite weakness of this bolt versus a potential weakness if the Chinese made bolt does not meet material requirements. Given that the Chinese bolt has the right dimensions, I think this is the best choice.
