Review on Dorman 38547 Tailgate Cable: Heavy-Duty Durability for Reliable Performance by Roger King

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Cables are easy to install. The cables passed the fault test.

Bought a pair for a 2006 Toyota Tundra 4-door cab. Dorman tailgate wire 38547. The wires appear to be well constructed although the shrink tubing on the ends makes it difficult to see which is not a criticism. In theory, a shrink tube should protect the stranded steel from moisture. Both packages came with all the necessary parts. Cables are easy to install. Despite the dubious usefulness of such a test, I didn't catch myself suddenly looking up at the sky, it's that good there. The original cables were 16.75 inches center to center. So here is the reason for only 3 stars; the Dorman cable is 17 inches center to center. This causes the end of the tailgate to hang 1/2 inch lower than it should work now the tailgate has a slight slant when lowering the slant isn't bad otherwise I would have rated the cables lower and given them the same characteristics. Another minor annoyance is the one cable is slightly longer than the other. Again, not too bad to mean anything, just annoying. After checking the original cables, they weren't exactly the same length either, but closer together than Dorman cables. However, I don't think the difference in length will be enough to to cause any problems. Finally, Revain's specs for this ability are misleading. The cable length is not 22". The packaging length is t 23" so I don't know where 22" is coming from. The length of the cable is 18 1/8" edge to edge and 17" center to center. Hope this helps .
