Review on πŸ”€ Turners Platters Spindles: High-Quality Hardwood with Optimal Diameter by Brandon Reid

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good for removing tool marks with higher quality grinding wheels.

Having used this grinder for several projects I can say it works better than trying to hand grind on a lathe. But the handle could have been longer for me for stability and the lock nut could have engaged better. Externally the sand is good but struggles with deep concave interior bays in the bowls. The inner vessels must be wide enough to fit the depth of the grinding head and bearing housing. If you're not careful, it'll slip out of your hand when you hit the case or the thumb adjustment knob on the alternate interior wall. I would have liked more grinding wheels to come with the tool. Delivery was as expected and well packaged. Update: July 2019. The very small stock of included grinding discs was not long in coming. Grinding wheels are not very durable. After using a couple of discs I cut from some Velcro sanding pads I've been very happy with this tool. Higher quality abrasive pads have made it much easier to turn the pad on the surface and are very good at removing tool marks. A better quality grinding wheel will now hold about 2 1/2 cups (6-12 inches) per wheel. I can also grind to a finer grit with great results. It took some time to get used to using the grinder properly. A little patience, better quality grinding wheels, and an occasional drop of machine oil will help you get a better curve. Hope that helps. Last updated: September 14, 2019 I ordered 2" blue sanding discs from 2sand.com in 120-600 grit. These blue discs have greatly improved the sharpening abilities of this tool. I know that Mirka is also highly regarded in the turning circles, the blue 2sand.com grinding wheels are cheaper. With 25 discs per pack compared to Mirka's 10 per grain, the pack price on 2sand.com was much lower than Mirka's. I can sand 3-4 hardwood bowls in a row per disc.
