Description of 🔀 Turners Platters Spindles: High-Quality Hardwood with Optimal Diameter

When you need to finish sand the inside of your wood turned bowl it can be a challenge to keep the wood from showing scuff marks. Using a piece of hand held sandpaper can also be somewhat dangerous. Our bowl sander essentially fixes this issue by having a dual bearing, smooth rotating head that spins with the rotation of the bowl while the bowl is rotating on the lathe. The 9 inch long handle also helps keep your hands out of harms way. The head assembly is completely adjustable so it can be set to any angle that you need depending on the size and curve of your project. Unlike most other bowl sander head assembly’s, our bowl sander has two steel bearings to provide you with super smooth mandrel rotation while sanding on your lathe. This also helps to reduce the chance of marking your wood since the sander will be rotating without hanging up or catching like so many other brands do. It’s all about the pressure, or more like, its all about the light pressure and consistent technique. When sanding with the 2 inch bowl sander, applying too much pressure will likely produce some unsightly results. By applying light pressure and consistently moving the sander, you will achieve the results you are looking for and in a fraction of the time it typically takes when hand sanding your project. The head assembly is also capable of accepting other size sanders as long as the mandrel/shank size is 1/4 inch in diameter. Please be aware however that some manufacturers say 1/4 inch in diameter when in actuality the diameter is either smaller or slightly larger. 3 brass bushings of varying depths are included to make fitting sanders with different length mandrels/shanks easy. We have included the most common diameter sanding head with the bowl sander. This sander head is made from a foam material that gives just enough to provide you with wonderful looking results each time you sand your projects. This 2” head size works well on most bowl turning projects since it can work with larger or smaller work pieces. Also included 10 ea. 80 grit, 10 ea. 120 grit, 10 ea. 150 grit and 10 ea. 220 grit hook and loop sanding discs.

Cheap design for hand and power tools

when it arrived, the head was not straight with the shank and couldn't be repaired. basically throw away. I replaced the head with the one that came in another kit with lots of sandpaper.

Pros
  • Hands free work
Cons
  • Can't remember but there was something

No bearings in power tools and hand tools

I was shocked to find there are NO BEARINGS inside to turn the shaft. That means it's just metal against metal. It works fine if you keep it lubricated, but it was a corner that didn't need to be cut.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Not sure

good grinder,,but,,,

This grinder does what it's supposed to do,,,but the head is held by clamps c,,,and the top one comes loose after you've done a lot of grinding, if you look at Sorby's you'll see that the top of the head is held in place by a locking sleeve, if you buy these expect to change the c-clip on top if you use it very often .

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Not bad

Easy to remove hook pad for power and hand tools

This is the second grinder I have bought. This is a great tool for removing scratches from chiseled shell surfaces. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the hook pad on the sanding block will come loose if you don't hold it while removing the sanding discs. My first one came off quickly so I glued it back on. But it's gone again. Need better quality hooks.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Pretty Good - Power & Hand Tools

I've used this on two different types of bowls that I've sharpened. I find it works best on the outside (bulged out) and with larger diameter bowls like 7" or so. With smaller diameters, he wants to slide on the surface. Inside the bowl, the tool works better with a larger diameter so the pad more contact. It would be nice to have interchangeable discs with concave, convex and flat discs.

Pros
  • GOLS Certified
Cons
  • Nothing Here

They don't tell you the grit of the sanding pad.

the grinder works well, but the grinding discs with the tool and additional discs ordered have no grit on the discs. Some of them do, but they're few and far between. The grit does not correspond to the normal use of the bowl. Where is 320? and the higher levels are almost never used. Can you only order 80, 120, 220, 320, 400, 500, 600 grit rims somewhere?

Pros
  • a beautiful thing
Cons
  • many things

Candy Grinding Tool for Bowl Turner

I'm just starting to learn how to turn wooden bowls. This tool was recommended online by an experienced bowl turner so I bought it and am very happy with it. It's a solid little mechanically accurate tool that works simply and easily as advertised. I find it's not as aggressive when sanding my bowl surface as a hand sander of the same grit BUT this rotating tool absorbs frictional heat and therefore my fingers don't feel any heat. .

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Little things

The paper does not match the notebook.

Excellent tool. Lubricate bearings before use. Don't overheat it. Obtain! But why save on sandpaper? The sandpaper is too small for the sanding discs. The Velcro sticks out from under the paper. Why send paper that doesn't fit? Or is it a large grinding wheel? Update: I called Peachtreeservice on the advice of the card that came with the grinder to tell them the paper doesn't fit the pad, but their support team didn't respond during business hours. A trip to the store before I can use the tool…

Pros
  • Power and hand tools
Cons
  • Very expensive

Very nice accessory

I have seen this tool in many wood turning videos that I have watched. Now that I have it, I don't know how I managed without it. Sanding the inside of the shells is now easier and the results are excellent. The quality of the tool is beyond my expectations and I'm sure I'll be using it for many years to come. It comes with several 100 grit grinding wheels so it is recommended to order several 2" wheels which are also available from Revain. I ordered a set of 10 grit to 3000 and both items…

Pros
  • Sanding blocks
Cons
  • Crumpled packet

Good for removing tool marks with higher quality grinding wheels.

Having used this grinder for several projects I can say it works better than trying to hand grind on a lathe. But the handle could have been longer for me for stability and the lock nut could have engaged better. Externally the sand is good but struggles with deep concave interior bays in the bowls. The inner vessels must be wide enough to fit the depth of the grinding head and bearing housing. If you're not careful, it'll slip out of your hand when you hit the case or the thumb adjustment knob

Pros
  • Hand Tool
Cons
  • Expensive
