This scale is good. You can just use a small plate or bowl as the big one will cover your fingers. I have a small piece of wood that I use for cutting and put it on a scale to determine the height. Just zero and then you can see under the plate. I really like that it can hold heavy objects. I weigh the slow cooker after the food is cooked, minus the weight of the stove itself, and then divide the weight to find out how much a serving is. My other scales don't weigh heavy objects, which is a plus for these scales.
