After reading many reviews I decided to test this product tonight. I wanted to use it as a spacer for my reluctance motor for my furnace. The previous gasket was made from a fibrous substance similar to fiberglass. Not sure about the temperature requirements but want to be sure. In any case, this product is advertised as "high temp" even though no specs are listed, so I decided to test the material myself. I preheated the oven to 275F and placed a 1x1 foot piece of material on the top shelf. Within 5 minutes my kitchen was filled with a bad smell but the product looked about the same in texture. I increased the temperature to 300F and after a few minutes the material started to discolor and the smell intensified. I increased the temperature to 350F and within about 5 minutes the material began to emit copious amounts of smoke, enough to set off my fire alarms. My entire kitchen was filled with bluish, choking smoke. Material is now burned and will crumble when removed. (see photos) I will never use this material as a backing for items that will be exposed to high temperatures as it poses a safety hazard. I will be requesting a refund as this product is incorrectly advertised as heat resistant.
