Review on 🎨 Pentel Arts Oil Pastels: 50 Color Set (PHN-50) - Vibrant Pigments for Alluring Artwork by Amber Perez

Good for beginners

I wasn't sure if I liked this material or not so I went with a cheaper brand. I quickly realized that it was generally impossible to get a good mix with it. You need to use real pastels on top of each other instead of rubbing with your finger/stump/hand tool. And even then, after about 2 coats, it starts to smudge (the best word I can think of to describe it) leaving a rough rather than smooth appearance. I needed it for the type of art I do (a lot of mixing) and after a lot of research I just bought a Mungyo ARTIST GRADE oil pastel (not student quality). Again, they are absolutely fine for a beginner to test the waters. But for those who might not know what they want, I suggest doing a little research first. I got LOTS of information from great artists on YouTube. Even they thought it was ok for beginners but doesn't satisfy those who want lots of smooth mixes. I just didn't realize my style until I had them. Such is the world of art. You won't know until you know. OK? lol. For $6 you just can't expect artist quality. Artistic quality Mungyo costs just under $25, which is still pretty cheap compared to $ennelier!

Pros
  • Acid free pastels are great for use on paper, card or canvas
Cons
  • unreliable
