Works like wax crayons

I was looking for a pastel that blended well and didn't leave chalk marks. Well, there is no chalk dust, the sticks act like wax crayons and cannot be shaded. Hard wax builds up when pressed and doesn't shade at all. I am very disappointed in this product after all the great reviews I have read. I wonder how kids can get the advertised results. I think you get what you pay for. I've seen videos that oil pastels tend to form a hard outer shell and need to be washed off from time to time. I tried

Good for beginners

I wasn't sure if I liked this material or not so I went with a cheaper brand. I quickly realized that it was generally impossible to get a good mix with it. You need to use real pastels on top of each other instead of rubbing with your finger/stump/hand tool. And even then, after about 2 coats, it starts to smudge (the best word I can think of to describe it) leaving a rough rather than smooth appearance. I needed it for the type of art I do (a lot of mixing) and after a lot of research I just…

I love these oil pastels and YOU WILL NOT FIND A better price than Revain's! 50, which includes multiple shades of your primary yellows, blues, and reds, as well as your secondary greens (which I prefer), oranges, and purples. I had to keep shuffling. These are very good quality pastels that are easy for anyone to work with.
