Review on πŸ”« Denix M1861 Navy Issue Brass Revolver - Authentic Non-Firing Replica for Collectors and Historical Enthusiasts by Shawn Jimenez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good for the price. Do not expect too much.

I was a bit surprised by the packaging. The weapon is made from over 5 pounds of metal but housed in a thin Denix box. It came out of the inner box during shipping so I opened the outer box and saw that the gun was half hanging out of the Denix box. The weapon looks good but is missing a few small details. For example, the hammer doesn't have the rear sight groove that the originals had. So this is a replica with no scopes of work as such. Also, the gun had some grease on the hinges. This is normal, but during shipping it rolled over and covered the brass with what looked like dirt. I was able to wipe it clean and the brass doesn't look that terrible. A final note on the packaging: the box is plain, it doesn't have a model number or anything like that. The only supplement was a small brochure about other Denix products. I think Denix doesn't supply a lot of redundant paper. But a map with historical information would be cool. Speaking of build quality. For the price it's ok. The weapon is heavy, which helps to understand that metallurgy was not so developed then. There is a very small bend at the junction of steel with brass on the case. And the cylinder wobbles too. I'm sure I can break the butt rod clamp and trigger. It's probably best not to mess with it. And after less than 10 cockings of the hammer, the cylinder stopped turning! :(The gun is pretty cheap though so I don't expect world class. And I think Denix might be the only one making replicas unless you buy a $450+ black powder pistol. So I'm with that agree a very cool paperweight that I can use to entertain visitors with old tidbits of western history. :)
