We've tried several goals including pressure based goals and this is my favorite. Pressure based gates are misleading. Most say they can be used at the top of stairs and they can but shouldn't unless you screw them to the wall. There is no way to avoid holes in the walls at the top of the stairs if you want to be safe. The advantages of these gates over most others are: 1) They open the full width of the hallway/staircase (minus an inch or two). for the hinge and latch) - others are much smaller and hard to get through when carrying 2) You can pull it out very easily if it's in your way and your child/dog isn't around 3) There is no tripping hazard with one pressure-based goal. I don't know why people say the valve is hard to open. It disassembles in a second the first time, but after that it is very easy to open with one hand.
