We used to have an entry warning system that was built into the floor with a magnetic bar. About a year later this thing kept going off at random times when nothing was in or near the driveway. I'm not sure if he's developed a short or what, but it's time to replace him. I did a lot of research. I was skeptical about motion detector style driveway alerts but I kept reading good reviews of the Guardline so I decided to try the 1/4 mile range model because we have a couple of acres with some metal buildings and such That signal there was no trees near the driveway, so I installed the motion detector on a wooden pole about two feet tall with a solar-powered address tag. I mounted it on the back of a pole pointing at an angle into the driveway so you can't see it until you drive past it. I have it set to detect up to 13 feet. Seems to work great! The only false alarm wasn't a false alarm, just a very large German Shepherd appeared in the driveway. We have had high winds and rain since I installed it and nothing else has caused it except cars or people driving into our driveway. I suppose the deer might stumble, but most of the deer that walk through our property come to the opposite side of the front yard, away from the house and outbuildings, away from the transmitter. So far they have not been found. When using the receiver on battery mode, I haven't found a spot on the job site where it hasn't received a signal from the transmitter. We have a large house, guest house and 30x60 metal shop and he will be receiving a signal behind and in each of them with a transmitter installed at the opposite end of the property 2 acres away. For now I give the Guardline 1/4 Mile Warning System 4 stars. My only gripe is that I wish some of the 30 different tones were less goofy music, dog barking, and cricket sounds and offered more variety in the default tones. I could give him 5 runs with better tones. When the one tone I like is very short compared to what we used to hear in the old system and sometimes when I'm at the top I miss it. I will most likely buy an extra receiver or two for upstairs and in store. Update 12/17/2018: We've had the 1/4 mile guardline for about a month now. That works great! I recently connected a Z-Wave contact probe to NC/NO relay switches on a hub paired with my Smartthings hub. Now every Alexa Echo in the house says "Driveway warning! Someone is in the driveway' when the sensor is triggered. I can also turn on lights or other operations when the driveway sensor is activated. That's great! No false alarms. We just had random deer triggering it, which isn't considered wrong is viewed positively.
