Review on ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Rechargeable Meat Thermometer - Digital Kitchen Food Cooking Thermometer for Candy, Oil, BBQ, Grill, Smoker - Accurate Readings, Food Temperature Guide, Alarm, LCD Backlight - IPX7 Waterproof by Vania Puckett

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not as fast as the stated read times, but workable.

Many of these instant read thermometers claim fairly large readings of 2, 3, 4 or even 6 seconds. Do not be fooled. While many give a READ, this doesn't seem like a really accurate reading. Just like these (and about 4 others I've had recently), this one is similar. Readings appear within a second or two, but correct for at least another 6-10 seconds longer in my average tests with meat, water, ice, hands, melted wax, etc. What I like: The weight and feel are comfortable enough in comparison functionally to many similar thermometers, but this one stands out because of its design and is not like all the others. It's good to start. It appears to be mostly constructed around 18650 lithium battery cells and appears to have 1 cell in it, possibly 2 but most likely only 1. This intrigues me as the device is powered by at least what - the time I discovered . in this case. The control panel (when it's lit, see below) is legible for the most part, although like many others, the keys are difficult to read due to the letters on the black keys being black. If they just painted over the characters with white paint or something like that, it would have been very easy for them to fix and would have looked like an accident. They cannot be read outdoors and on the grill without decent lighting. Inside, even then, they're hard to read unless you know what they are from memory. What I don't like: The LCD backlight turns off too quickly, which I calculated at 8 seconds, but reading can often take longer. Not long enough to take a reading, just long enough to extend the temperature range to e.g. And that seems like a huge disappointment considering the battery capacity is HUGE compared to other instant read thermometers. What gives!? You have a lot more power, but you're missing an opportunity to capitalize on it! For example, let the backlight timeout be 20 seconds, maybe even 30 seconds, or let me turn it on myself, which doesn't have a "light" button on the device. It has a "Power/Set" button and you can press it again to turn the display on for another 8 seconds, but it's not intuitive on the device itself. This device could be a lot better but for some reason I miss it. The probe is also a bit awkward to insert and needs to have another notch, maybe in the middle, to reach it. What's the point of just retracting the probe from its sharp point (and also from the point that then goes into the FOOD) when we can just insert it from the center of the probe? Terrible design execution on this one. If you ignore this, it's pretty easy to accidentally stab yourself, which is almost impossible to accomplish with an oven mitt or other utensil in hand. That would be a lot easier to work with. The charging connector in 2021 is a Micro-B USB connector, while USB-C is mainly a connector for many reasons, the stakes are much higher over time, there is no unified input direction, future compatibility and charging speed, and this are fair some of them. It seems that this will not be difficult to change any time soon and for the foreseeable future. Verdict: For the price, the device mostly does what it says on the tin, but the time to get an accurate reading, the short backlight timer, and the probe release make it difficult. really recommend. And it's a shame because it could at least be a B+ rated device, while I'm struggling to give it a C instead. Perhaps the 6 instant reading is more instantaneous and will keep up with simple design decisions.
