Rather, we use it as part of a decorative kitchen display of various states that are important in our lives (e.g. we used to live there, someone we care about lives there, etc.). As for serving/cutting, it will obviously work. As for our target - depending on where the little hole was at the top to hang it - we were worried it might not be centered enough for the Wisconsin to *sit* properly. But we needn't worry: it's perfectly centered. So if the purpose of your purchase is similar to ours, rest assured that it is a worthy contribution.
