Tip: If you only need a few for seascapes, landscapes or portraits, these special sets are a good deal! But if you want all the colors in this range, buy the Tints, Painting, Shades and Extra Dark Shades sets instead and you'll have a complete line without duplication. in terms of amount of paint on disc) this is comparable to the cost of other artist's crayons and in cases like Unison often much cheaper. Plus, you don't have all the dust and falling debris that plagues softer pastels. one with a round hazelnut-like head and one square, as well as several interchangeable head jaws. The triangular applicator is not included but can be purchased separately. They can be used to create artworks on their own or combined with other pastel or dry materials such as charcoal and graphite. Because of their softness and ease of application, they can be used to create fog, smoke, and other effects in watercolor paintings. However, they are slightly translucent. This means they don't cover as well as pastel colors. So if you plan on sketching your work, keep that in mind and use pastel pencil colors as close to the local color as possible because if you don't want to apply a lot of layers, the lines will show through. Exceptions are darker shades and of course black.
