It's very hard to find a sock that doesn't dig into the lower calf/upper ankle. These are simply "matching". My ankles are not huge. I think the fact that they offer an XL size is a kind of solution. I have a size 11 foot with a high instep or a foot with more volume. These are the best socks I've ever tried. They are a bit thick for work shoes, but casual or loose shoes are fine for me. I think these are trail runner style socks, they are designed to work with athletic shoes. You have a good pillow. I like to wear them at home instead of slippers. I washed and dried them and forgot it was wool. but they were ok. I think in the future I will just wash and air dry. I don't want them to change.
