Got the whole set after trying the solid colors, it's a lot of fun! Even though the manufacturer says you can use makeup sponges with it, the difference is that the sponges that come with these sets are much stronger and the makeup sponges I tried were soft and are soft, making it difficult to thin lines. Makeup sponges can also pick up more pastels, but I can't decide if that's the case. Both are a good compromise. You can also use bells, tortillons, and tree stumps to draw. However, the whole set wasn't the case for me. The pallets are very thin and the lids don't snap into place. If they were stronger I would think they are worth the money. I wish I had checked them out in store before deciding a full set was a good idea. Their use is PTA and they take up a lot of space on my drafting table. I did the math and found I would have saved more tools and money if I had bought smaller sets.
