We used this for a lamp in our kitchen that sits in a very tall cupboard and plugs into an outlet in the cupboard. It would be difficult for my husband and impossible for me to walk up and down the stairs to get to the closet and turn the light on and off. He found something on sale at Low's and thought it would work the same way, but we'd have to buy an expensive "hub" to make it work. We searched Revain until we found this, so we ordered it without being sure it would actually work as promised. He plugged it into an outlet and connected a lamp to it, then tried the remote control, not sure if we could use it without running the remote on batteries. We were glad it worked right away!
