Firstly not all cables were included in the box - I needed two USB Type B (used for printer cables) which the manual says must be included per step 5 of the hardware installation guide. You will also need an extra HDMI cable (KVM to monitor) so you can add it to your cart if you don't already have one! My setup consists of two laptops using the built-in displays as "second" screens, sharing a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and game bar (Orbweaver). When I use the Shift key, the active PC starts using the extended desktop while the idle PC starts using only the integrated display. This allows me to freely switch between "work mode" and "game mode" immediately. I'd also like to add that my keyboard backlight works with the switch and is a good indicator of what computer I'm connected to, so I attach the switch to the back of the monitor with a couple of 3M strips and just look for the Button can grope - It saves desk space and clutter.
