I am amazed at how well designed this device is. It is very small and shaped like a large egg. The plastic is matt and very durable. No screwdriver is required to open the battery compartment. Three AAA batteries are included BUT remember to remove the plastic wrapping from them. The mount is also well made and has a ratchet for fine adjustment. The device can be placed upside down in the holder as shown in the photo. I'm trying to recreate the sound of a dog barking to scare the deer out of my yard. The included remote control makes it easy to change the selected sound so the reindeer don't get confused. It has four tones, although the dog barking isn't as strong as I had hoped, but it sounds real and very vicious. It also has a very loud beep. The distance at which it detects motion is about 15 feet, I've found. The lateral spacing is about 20 feet, 10 feet on each side. I plan to buy more as my garden is big. I am working on keeping them dry as they are for indoor use. This is the third device I've tried and the only one I like. UPDATE: I bought a second unit to cover a larger area of my garden. I installed them with the buttons down and they are both sealed with a clear plastic bag. They aren't meant for outdoor use so I'm hoping to prevent them from getting wet. The remote control is amazing as I can easily turn it on at night and off in the morning. I haven't had any damage or deer tracks since installation. My neighbor also bought one for her garden.
