"FAST" does not mean that I have done a thorough scientific comparison of several available pepper mills and found this to be the FASTEST. But I'll tell you what I can say about the speed of this grinder. Suffice it to say that I think it's fast enough for COOKING USES and not just for tabletop use. Same: the salt shaker was ok but the pepper was a bit sluggish. And I REALLY missed the one-handed operation, like seasoning a steak all over. I then promised to find an electric option quickly and went through countless reviews looking for comments on the performance of different grinders. This isottcom setup seemed like a low-risk option and the reviews said there was some chance they would prove fast. So my pepper mill just arrived two hours ago. In seconds I installed the batteries and loaded the pepper jar. I looked forward to the big dough on the white plate. Not realizing it was set to the finest grind, I pushed the button and was pleased to see I had a teaspoon or so of finely ground pepper in just four or five seconds. I then went to the opposite extreme and tried the coarsest setting, which produced a correspondingly coarser product even faster. I may or may not make a video to document my experience, but just imagining how much pepper I would need in a pot of soup or a wok, I was happy to also make a safe guess that this meat grinder would eject the pepper. I want - sometimes large sums of money - at a reasonable price. Lighting, battery installation, aesthetics, ergonomics, grind levels and price are all fine - actually quite nice. But I would encourage those of you who are primarily concerned with output speed to give it a try. When you're not cooking for the military, you'll find this coffee grinder will keep up with you in the kitchen.
