I purchased this sharpener after reviewing the electric version and the more expensive manual version, the Spyderco. I took it on a hike this weekend and used it to sharpen my Smith & Wesson CKSUR1 Bullseye Search and Rescue fixed blade knife - it was amazingly easy - I watched the demo on YouTube first. As impressed as I was with the blade he gave my camping knife, I was amazed at what he did with my 16-year-old cheap, worn-out, hardware store-bought ax β I brought some kindling to split. On a whim I took it and ran it through the preloaded carbides and BAM had a real advantage. It's important to note that the baby spoon was sharper than my ax up to this point, I ran it a few more times and watched the edge get better and better (I could see a small amount of metal being sheared off). I ran it over the diamond stone's discontinuous surface and then approached the oak cartridge that was intended to provide the flame for our first round of s'mores. Gentle rocking and WOW, this piece of oak never stood a chance. If you are looking for an easy to use manual knife sharpener that can sharpen all types of knives (and apparently a hatchet) then I highly recommend this item. Okay, I'll look for other things to sharpen or as my wife says, "blow up balls".
